The Name of Jesus Is the Signature of God

• By Gideon Adegunle

Philippians 2:9-10
Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name.

Introduction

Signatures represents authority. Whenever a document carries a signature, it carries the approval, identity, and authority of the one who signed it.

Without a signature, a document may contain promises, agreements, or intention, but it remains incomplete.

In the Kingdom of God, the name of Jesus functions like God’s signature upon His dealings with humanity. It represents divine authority, confirms divine promises, and authenticates divine action.

The name of Jesus is not merely a title we attach to prayer. It is Heaven’s authorization.

A Name in Scripture Represents Authority

In the Bible, a name is not just identification. It represents character, authority, and power. When Jesus gave His disciples authority, He attached it to His name.

Mark 16:17
“In my name they will drive out demons.”

Acts 3:6
“In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

The apostles did not act based on personal power. They acted under delegated authority. The name of Jesus carried Heaven’s endorsement. Just as a signature validates a deal, the name of Jesus validates spiritual authority.

The Name Confirms God’s Promise

Throughout Scripture, God made promises to His people. Yet the ultimate confirmation of those promises came through Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:20
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen.”

This means Jesus is the confirmation of everything God declared. Every promise finds its fulfillment and certainty in Him. A promise written without confirmation may still be questioned. But when God placed Christ at the center of redemption, He effectively placed His signature upon His covenant with humanity. Jesus is the divine confirmation that God’s Word will stand.

The Name Grants Access to God

The authority of Jesus’ name also establishes access.

John 16:23
“Whatever you ask the Father in my name, He will give you.”

Prayer in Jesus’ name is not a ritual phrase. It is recognition that Jesus is the mediator between God and humanity. Just as a representative may sign on behalf of a greater authority, Christ represents humanity before the Father. Through His name, believers approach God with confidence.

The Name Demonstrates God’s Approval

When God raised Jesus from the dead and exalted Him, He publicly affirmed the authority of His Son.

Philippians 2:9-11
“God exalted Him… that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.”

This exaltation was Heaven’s declaration that Christ carries divine authority. The resurrection was not only victory over death. It was God’s endorsement of the Son. The name of Jesus became the ultimate expression of God’s approval and authority.

Conclusion

The name of Jesus is not merely a phrase spoken at the end of prayer. It represents the authority, confirmation, and approval of God Himself. Just as a signature authenticates a document, the name of Jesus authenticates God’s work of redemption. Through Christ, God has placed His authority upon His promise. The name of Jesus stands as Heaven’s declaration that what God has spoken is final.

Heart Check

“Create in me a clean heart, O God” – Psalm 51:10 is not a cry for salvation, but a heart-check cry. David, though a man who belonged to God, acknowledges in Psalm 51:1 that it is the mercy and compassion of God that enables a man to walk in holiness, not merely his position. As believers, our position in Christ does not cancel the need for regular heart examination and cleansing.

Praying with an Unsettled Mind

Scripture shows us that stillness is not optional but it is foundational. Prayer is not only about speaking; it is about being present, attentive, and aligned. Praying with an unsettled mind does not make prayer invalid, but it limits its effectiveness, depth, and clarity. God is always ready to engage, but the believer must learn to align the inner life.

The Cross: The Key That Opened the Grave

C.R.O.S.S – Christ Released Our Sealed Sepulchre
The Cross is not just where Christ died, it is where death lost its right. It is the divine key inserted into the earth, turning through sacrifice, unlocking what sin had sealed.
