Nourishing the Soul: Embracing the Perfection of God’s Word

• By Gideon Adegunle

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.

The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple – Psalms 19: 7

It was perfect at the beginning, it is perfect today, and it will remain perfect long after the world passes away.

Yet many people, overwhelmed by tragedy, confusion, or life’s storms, begin to doubt this perfection.

But God’s Word is not seasonal. His truth is not unstable. His promises are not emotional.

To transform humanity, God gave His eternal law, because as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Before the heart could be renewed, there had to be a revelation of truth.

Why Did God Give the Law Before Revealing the Fullness of Grace?

Just like the widow in 2 Kings 4 needed empty vessels before the oil could flow, God needed to create spiritual capacity before revelation could come.

The law prepared the space for Christ.

5 major reasons God sent the law first

  1. The Law Revealed Our Need for Salvation (Galatians 3:24). The law served as a tutor a spiritual mirror. It showed humanity its condition. Without the law, man would never recognize his need for a Savior. God first exposes so that He can heal. He reveals the problem before presenting the solution.
  2. The Law Exposed Sin and Human Weakness (Romans 3:20). The law proved one thing clearly: Man cannot save himself. It revealed sin, showed human inability, and demonstrated that righteousness through personal effort is impossible. This awakens humility and dependence on God.
  3. The Law Made Us Aware of Our Helplessness So We Can Receive Grace (1 Timothy 1:8-9). Until man sees his weakness, he cannot embrace God’s strength. The law highlighted human failure so that Christ could become the answer. Grace is appreciated only after we see our need for it.
  4. Through Christ, God Provided Redemption and True Righteousness (Ephesians 2:8-9). The law brought knowledge. Jesus brought salvation. The law pointed to our guilt. Jesus brought justification. Righteousness is no longer a reward for performance it is a gift received by faith.
  5. The Law Was a Guide Leading Us to the Truth, Jesus Himself (Matthew 5:17). Jesus did not cancel the law; He fulfilled it. He completed what the law began. Every Scripture ultimately points to Him. John 5:39 says,

“These are they that testify of Me.

The purpose of the law was always to reveal the Person of Christ.

The Law Today: A Guide That Makes the Simple Wise

The law still carries purpose:

The law of the Lord is perfect… making wise the simple. – Psalm 19:7

It serves as a guardian.

But for believers, the law becomes a pathway to revelation bringing us to Christ, shaping our minds, and transforming us into His image.

SPIRITUAL HUNGER: Why Many Feel Weak or Far From God

Proverbs 30:15 teaches us not to let our souls become spiritually stale.

Many people feel spiritually weak because:

  • They only consume sermons and short videos.
  • Their study life is disorganized.
  • They do not sit long enough with the Word.
  • They have no consistent nourishment

This creates a sense of distance from God not because He moved, but because the soul is starving.

Spiritual hunger is a sign of life. But not everyone has it. Some feel spiritually dead no desire, no hunger, no connection.

If hunger is not nourished, it dies. And when spiritual hunger dies, people become vulnerable to:

  • Religious spirits.
  • Deception.
  • Emotional Christianity.
  • False doctrines.
  • Empty routine

A starving soul becomes an easy target.

In Conclusion God’s Word Is Perfect, And It Perfects Us. The law reveals sin. Grace reveals the Savior. The Word reveals Christ. Faith transforms the believer.

To stay spiritually alive and strong:

  • Nourish your hunger.
  • Pursue the Word.
  • Allow Scripture to shape you.
  • Seek transformation, not routine.
  • Stay consistent in prayer and meditation

The perfection of God’s Word points us to the perfection found in Christ.

As we give attention to His Word, our souls are refreshed, renewed, and strengthened.

Stay nourished. Stay hungry. Stay transformed.

Stay blessed and edified!
