A Bigger Picture of Experiencing God’s Presence

• By Gideon Adegunle

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2(NIV)

Feeling as though God is absent or experiencing a longing for Him does not necessarily mean He is distant. Instead, it indicates a strong desire to satisfy your need to be closer to Him. While this sense of void can make a believer uncomfortable, it is in these moments that faith in His presence becomes crucial. Your renewed heart is active when your desire for closer fellowship with God is ardent and intense. Thus, what remains then is a passionate pursuit (Psalm 63:1).

Joy: The Evidence of His Presence

The major determinant of God’s presence in your life is joy, as stated in Psalm 16:11: “…In Your presence is fullness of joy…”
This joy is experienced through grace and peace in your soul, as described in 2 Peter 1:2: “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”
Grace and peace come through knowing God and His Son, Jesus Christ, and the evidence of this knowledge is reflected in obedience and devotion. If you feel a lack of joy, it signals the need for deeper understanding of God the Father and Jesus our Lord.

Joy Amid Life’s Trials

Isaiah 43:2 illustrates how passing through waters, rivers, and fire represents the various seasons and challenges of life. As mentioned in Isaiah 43:1, those who are redeemed can find joy even amidst these trials. Such experiences test our faith, strengthening and revealing our patience and trust in God.

Christ’s Assurance

Jesus knew we might sometimes doubt His presence, which is why He said, “Be of good cheer,” and promised to send another Comforter. He gave the Great Commission so that you would see and know He is in you and in the assignment He gave you to do.

Seeing the Bigger Picture

It’s important to recognize God not only in your personal affairs but also in your effort to establish His kingdom on earth. If, as a believer, you only see God in your business or private life, you need to broaden the narrative. Do what God does, and you will see the bigger picture of His work in every part of your life.

Stay blessed and always edified 🙏.

Praying with an Unsettled Mind

Scripture shows us that stillness is not optional but it is foundational. Prayer is not only about speaking; it is about being present, attentive, and aligned. Praying with an unsettled mind does not make prayer invalid, but it limits its effectiveness, depth, and clarity. God is always ready to engage, but the believer must learn to align the inner life.
